Drive4USA kicks off 2003 with Bryan Sellers
Atlanta, GA 6/11/2003: The Drive4USA campaign launches its 2003 season by joining as an associate sponsor of the Toyota Atlantic Championship series debut of Bryan Sellers. The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca event is round 4 of the 12 race 2003 season and scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 14. Drive4USA is an outgrowth of the successful Kart2CART campaign that assisted numerous Toyota Atlantic drivers in years past. Drivers benefiting from the Kart2CART initiative included Pete Mercier, Case Montgomery, Andy Lally and last season's Grant Ryley.
Drive4USA is a driver assistance initiative under the direction of Rick Waddell, a senior computer software executive and frequent competitor in the Star Mazda series. Waddell's vision is to assist young, up and coming American open-wheel drivers develop their talents to compete more effectively against the foreign-born drivers who have dominated the open-wheel landscape for the past several years. Drive4USA is intended to help American drivers gain valuable experience and expertise as they climb the motorsport competition ladder.
"It is a well known fact that today's open-wheel racing lacks sufficient numbers of Americandrivers in the line-up," said Rick Waddell. "Drive4USA's principal objective is to stop talking about helping American drivers and actually begin helping them. Our campaign is one of several that are now addressing the challenge and I hope that more companies will join us in our program as well as other similar ventures. The more that we address this situation, the faster we will see qualified Americans competing at the highest level of open-wheel competition. It is imperative that more American corporations step up to help. I am proud of the contribution that Drive4USA has played in the development of these aspiring American drivers."
Bryan Sellers will debut in the Toyota Atlantic series this weekend. The 2002 Zetec Formula Ford 2000 champion is highly regarded and is an ideal example of the Drive4USA driver. Sellers is to serve as the "flagship" ambassador for the Drive4USA initiative in 2003. The visibility and focus provided by Sellers will help to shed additional recognition on the Drive4USA campaign. It is the goal of the initiative to continue to expand and assist more deserving American drivers in their quest to reach the top.
