LAS VEGAS, NV (AUGUST 13, 1998) The PPI/Derek Daly Performance Driving Academy Swift, with driver Jeff Shafer, returns to action this weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI in the 10th round of the 1998 KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship.
"Road America, with all of its trees and hills, is like a high speed public road, except there is no chance of someone pulling out from the grocery store in front of you! A lap at Elkhart Lake driven on the limit gives a driver an unbelievable rush. It's the reason why we do this!"
"The testing we did here in July was really important for me. We got up to speed and it was a great learning experience for me. Now that I have the initial learning curve out of the way, we should roll off the truck very quick."
Nick Harvey - Team Manager, PPI/Arciero Wells:
"It is an extreme pleasure working with Jeff because you can see him learning so much, so quickly. Our stopwatch consistently tells us how quicker he is every time he goes out on track."
"My confidence driving the car has grown after completing the first two races (Milwaukee, Trois-Rivieres) in the top ten and that growth should continue this weekend. A podium finish is very possible, maybe even higher! The PPI team is so well prepared and the car feels so great, that it is easy to have such confidence!"
"The technical side of the new Swift chassis has been a fascinating learning experience. Working with Nick Harvey has been great and I have already learned so much. Each weekend I work with Nick and the PPI guys, I can feel myself becoming a better driver. In the end, I just need to do my job in the car."
