Hylton Motorsports Signs Hunter-Reay to Defend CART Toyota Atlantic Title

Irvine, California (January 31, 2002) -- Hylton Motorsports announced today that Ryan Hunter-Reay will drive the #1 u.s. print/Medlock Ames Winery/Toyota/Swift in the 2002 CART Toyota Atlantic season.

Hunter-Reay, 21 of Boca Raton, Florida joins Hylton Motorsports, the defending CART Toyota Atlantic Champions from the CART Barber Dodge Pro Series. A 9x National Karting Champion, Hunter-Reay was awarded the inaugural Skip Barber Karting scholarship advancing him to 2 liter racing at the age of 16 and went on to win the Skip Barber 2L National Championship. Hunter-Reay was then awarded a full scholarship for the 2000 CART Barber Dodge Pro Series, in which he won the Rookie of the Year honors and finished fifth in the championship. In his 2001 BDPS sophomore season, Hunter-Reay recorded two victories and six top-five finishes.

An example of the CART ladder system at work, Hylton Motorsports team owner Keith Hylton is pleased to introduce the talented young American to Formula Atlantic competition, "I don't believe I have ever met a more motivated and determined young driver and I have great confidence we have selected a solid driver we can build our 2002 effort around." Hylton continued, "This is a seasoned and very talented team who will bring out the best in Ryan's talent. In the few short days that Ryan has been with us I have watched the chemistry begin to build within the team. Defending our championship title with a rookie may make us a dark horse in some people's view, but it is exactly where I want to be."

A proven front-runner, Hunter-Reay will be one of five Atlantic rookies competing for the 2002 Atlantic title. "This is by far the best opportunity for me to advance my career. I realize I have big shoes to fill piloting the #1 Hylton car, but it is exactly the opportunity I wanted and with this team the opportunities are truly unlimited." Hunter-Reay continued, "The 2002 Atlantic field is extremely deep, it will be a fantastic fight for the championship and I am honored to be a part of it. I can hardly wait for the season to start, particularly at the series' first race in Mexico."

Hunter-Reay impressed the Hylton crew as he made his first appearance in an Atlantic car last week when he tested the all-new Swift 014.A. "I was quite impressed with the performance of the new Swift in many areas. I found the gearbox to be very smooth both on the up-shifts and down-shifts, much better than I had imagined. The overall balance of the car right from the get go was excellent. The car felt very nimble, this coupled with the high revving of the Toyota power plant made for a very enjoyable first run." Hunter-Reay continued, "The professionalism the Hylton team demonstrated during my initial test gives me absolute confidence that I will have everything needed to succeed and at the same time learn so much from a team that has proven they are the best in the Formula Atlantic series."

Entering their fourth year of Atlantic competition, Hylton Motorsports continues its commitment to the CART Toyota Atlantic series. "I think this will be a great year for the Atlantic Series. I am excited about it being the focal point of the primary development within CART. I have great sense of anticipation For Mr. Pook and what he will be able to accomplish. I will do all that I can to support his effort and direction, as it will be pivotal year for our sport," commented Hylton.
