Irvine, California (Feb. 20, 2001) - Hylton Motorsports owner Keith Hylton announced today that Bob Montgomery has been named as the Team Manager and Race Engineer for the defending CART Toyota Atlantic Championship team. Montgomery will handle day-to-day team operations and provide engineering assistance to 1999 and 2001Championship winning Race Engineer Kyle Brannan.
Montgomery joins Hylton Motorsports from Swift Engineering, where he was the Toyota Atlantic Program Manager for the past two years. In addition to his Management role at Swift, Montgomery assisted in the development of the new Atlantic chassis, the Swift 014.a, and served as the Technical Liaison to all Atlantic teams.
"I am extremely pleased to have Bob Montgomery join Hylton Motorsports, I know both his motivation and experience will serve our team well," said Hylton. "This team is always seeking that competitive advantage and Mr. Montgomery will be adding to that."
A mechanical engineer by degree, Montgomery began his engineering career in the aerospace industry. After a five-year detour from engineering as a professional pilot, Montgomery joined Swift Engineering in 2000.
Montgomery became involved in racing in the 1970's in SCCA club racing and Formula 5000. Having also successfully competed in SCCA Formula Ford competition as a driver, he moved into racecar engineering with various teams before landing at Swift.
"I'm very excited about joining the reining Toyota Atlantic Championship team. I want to thank Keith for the opportunity to work with this terrific group of guys," said Montgomery.
Hylton Motorsports claimed the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship in 2001 after capturing five victories, finishing on the podium in 11 of 12 events and earning four pole positions. Montgomery is looking forward to the 2002 season with series newcomer and Barber Dodge standout Ryan Hunter-Reay behind the wheel, "The record of this team speaks for itself. I'm very impressed with what I've seen in Ryan's driving, he has proven himself on and off the track and with Kyle leading engineering I think we will continue to be a major player in the championship again this year," commented Montgomery.
A native of Southern California, Montgomery currently resides in Thousand Oaks, California with his wife Jani and stepson Jeffery.
