A frustrating two days of practicing and qualifying woes, which forced the All American Racers driver to switch back and forth from his primary car to his back up car due to gearbox and electrical problems, ended on a high note. Starting last on the grid in 21st position (forgoing his qualifying position of 18th in his back up car). Alex was ready when the green flag fell. With determination and skill, # 48 passed car after car on this classic 4.048 mile road course through the forests of Wisconsin, putting on an exciting show during the 17 lap race which saw three caution flags and ended under yellow. At two thirds of the race Alex had managed to race to fifth position, briefly made it to fourth by passing Andrew Bordin and then back to fifth, a position he could not improve further due to a caution flag at the end of the race. The race was won by Rice, followed by Wheldon and Basso.

Alex Gurney:
"I am really happy about this result considering what we went through the two days prior to the event itself. We were testing in Buttonwillow in California last week and never had a single problem, so we came to my favorite racetrack with high expectations. But gearbox problems, which haunted quite a few teams, threw our plans in turmoil and the team had to work hard, fast and long hours to get me to the grid prepared. Both our cars handled beautifully. Once I had come mentally to terms with the fact that I would start last, I actually enjoyed starting from the back of the pack and passing a lot of my competitors. I wish the race had been a bit longer and finished under green as I really felt good doing what I was doing."

Team Manager, Justin Gurney:
"The last two days were tough, but we never gave up. Despite the fact that we had not had the chance of testing in Elkhart before, we knew we could get the car right if we kept at it. Alex rewarded all of us with a great show."
