Road America is round 10 of the 12-race KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship, sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing. The KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic communications staff of James Hyneman, Blair Hefty, and Anne Roy will be available throughout the weekend to assist in your reporting needs. Now in its 24th season, the $1.38 million 1997 KOOL/TOYOTA Atlantic Championship is the richest longest-running open-wheel development series in North America, and a primary training ground for future Indy car and Formula One drivers. 32 drivers are expected this weekend including three-time winner (Nazareth, Milwaukee, and Mid-Ohio) and series points leader Alex Barron; Montreal and Cleveland winner Bertrand Godin; Long Beach and Trois-Rivieres champ Alexandre Tagliani; and Homestead victor Anthony Lazzaro. Barron has a 19 point lead over Memo Gidley, 121-102. Godin in third place with 98 points followed closely by Tagliani with 96. Case Montgomery rounds out the top-five with 86 points.
