FINAL QUALIFYING

10:36 a.m. - - Session begins under cloudy skies, high humidity, and temperatures in the mid 70s - current track conditions are dry but rain is expected later this afternoon.

10:45 - - #66 TAGLIANI runs off course in turn 12 and becomes stuck in the sand run-off - brings out a RED FLAG - car is re-started and returns to pit lane under its own power.

10:49 - - GREEN FLAG

10:56 - - #12 BROOKS stops between turns one and two with a fire on-board due to a broken "wish bone" - driver out and okay - brings out a RED FLAG.

11:04 - - GREEN FLAG - 11 minutes remain in the session.

11:07 - - #14 WEST runs the fastest lap of the weekend and sets a NEW TRACK RECORD at 2:03.611 - 117.892 mph.

As #78 RUTLEDGE and #35 POOK run through turn 12, #78 RUTLEDGE loses control and hits #35 POOK - both cars skirt off course and into a gravel run-off - brings out a RED FLAG

#14 CHUCK WEST, of Sonoma, Calif., wins his second career Atlantic pole and second Atlantic pole this season with a NEW TRACK RECORD time of 2:03.611 - 117.892 mph. #43 JOAO BARBOSA, of Valongo, Portugal, will start on the outside pole in the RDS Motorsport-Toyota of Portugal/Sega/Caetano Buses Ralt RT-41 at 2:04.322 - 117.218 mph #32 ALEX BARRON, of Vista, Calif., drops to third on the grid after scoring yesterday’s second fastest time of 2:04.336 - 117.205 mph in the Lynx Racing-Victory Circle/Red Line Oil Ralt RT-41.

WEST’S time betters the previous track record of 2:04.322 - 117.218 mph set in provisional qualifying by BARBOSA.

WEST sat on the pole in the season opener at Homestead.

WEST is the third Atlantic driver this season to win more than one pole position. BARRON leads all Atlantic drivers with three poles including Nazareth, Milwaukee, and Toronto. ALEXANDRE TAGLIANI is a two-time pole winner with fast laps at Cleveland and Trois-Rivieres.

#71 JOAQUIN DeSOTO, of Miami, Fla., wins the C2 pole position after qualifying 27th overall in the Weld Motorsports-Canvas by Deneba Software Reynard 93H. By virtue of winning today’s pole position, WEST earns one bonus point and moves into 13th place in the Atlantic drivers championship with 39 points.
