Houston, TX (October 1, 2000) - 2000 CART Toyota Atlantic champions Buddy Rice and DSTP Atlantic captured their tenth podium finish out of ten races completed this year by virtue of finishing 3rd in today's season-ending Atlantic race on the streets of Houston.

Rice's season record featured 5 victories, three second-place finishes, two thirds and six fastest race laps en route to this year's Atlantic title. He relinquished the championship lead only once since taking over at round two in Homestead and led more laps than any other driver (222 out of 422 completed). "Once again, we had an excellent car," said Rice, who started today's race from the third position. "I had a difficult start and hit the rev limiter while shifting into third. I fell back a few spots but was able to move back up and catch David (Rutledge). We could run with him, but we didn't have enough to get around. It was another great race and solid finish for the DSTP Atlantic team. It's been a terrific year and now it's time to celebrate our championship win."

Andrew Bordin won today's 43-lap race, which was slowed by four caution periods. At the start, Bordin took the lead from the pole starting spot, followed by Rutledge. Rice slipped back to sixth and worked his way back into third on the eighth lap. Bordin led flag to flag, while Rice battled for second with Rutledge. At the checkered flag it was Bordin, Rutledge, Rice, Dan Wheldon and Rocky Moran Jr.

"Finishing on the podium was a great way to cap-off the season," said Dede Rogers, team owner. "I think it's just beginning to set-in that we won the championship and it's truly amazing what this team was able to accomplish. This is such a great feeling and to end the season with another strong run really shows what this team is all about. We're ready to go have some fun and celebrate this terrific season."

Houston's CART Toyota Atlantic race will be televised via espn2 on Sunday, October 8, at 7:00 pm (EDT), with an encore presentation on Tuesday, October 10, at 5:00 am (EDT).
