Houston, TX (September 30, 2000) - 2000 CART Toyota Atlantic Championship-winning team DSTP Atlantic and driver Buddy Rice will start third for tomorrow's final round of this year's Toyota Atlantic season at the Texaco Grand Prix of Houston. Rice set a fast time of 1:06.586 (82.558 mph) on the 10th lap of the session - his final lap before retiring early following contact with the Turn 6 tire wall.

"We definitely had a lot more speed in the car," said Rice, who qualified on pole for last year's Houston race. "We just put on a new set of tires and went back to our morning setup. I was on a clear lap and wanted to put in a flier. I came in just a little too hot and locked up the front tires. The car's not too bad. We bent the right front corner and front wing, but we'll be okay tomorrow. We're still starting third and should have a good shot at the front."

The top five qualifiers all set a time faster than yesterday's provisional qualifying record (1:07.038, 82.001 mph, set by Rice) led by Andrew Bordin (1:06.491), David Rutledge (1:06.539), Rice, Martin Basso (1:06.645) and Dan Wheldon (1:06.779).

"We're just looking forward to a great race tomorrow," said Dede Rogers, team owner. "We know we have a great car and really hope to wrap up the season with a win."

Tomorrow's Atlantic activities begin with a 15-minute warm-up session at 8:00 am, followed by the 43-lap race at 9:40 am. The race will be televised via espn2 on Sunday, October 8, at 7:00 pm (EDT), with an encore presentation on Tuesday, October 10, at 5:00 am (EDT).
