Sciuto Matches Season-best Finish of Fourth in Denver
Polestar teammate Barron finishes 11th
Denver, Colorado (August 13, 2006) -- Polestar Racing Group driver Alan Sciuto (#12 Sealy/PKV Racing/The RoomStore of Phoenix/W.S. Deans) matched his season-best finishing position of fourth in today's Champ Car Atlantic race around the Pepsi Center in Denver. Teammate Alex Barron (#21 The RoomStore of Phoenix) started and finished 11th in a time-certain 50-minute race that was shortened to 35 laps from the scheduled 39 due to four full-course caution periods.
"It's not where we wanted to be, but it's still a great finish for us," said Sciuto, who started today's race from third on the grid, and had the fastest time in this morning's 15-minute warm-up session. "I dropped a spot on the start and kept working with the bars to get some more speed out of the car, but I had a little bit of a push on the back corners and wasn't able to get on the back straight fast enough to pass anyone. But, it was a good showing for us and once again the guys did a great job all weekend."
"The track seemed to lose some grip from this morning to this afternoon," said Barron. "We made a few changes, but my car wasn't as good when I was right on people in dirty air as it was this morning. The harder I tried the slower I went. I don't know why, so obviously we need to try to figure that out. The guys were great this weekend, and I'm glad to see that Alan had a good finish."
Graham Rahal won today's Atlantic race and was followed by Raphael Matos and Simon Pagenaud. Sciuto also set the fourth-fastest time in today's race. His previous season-best finish of fourth came earlier this year in Portland, Oregon.
Today's tenth round of the 12-race 2006 Yokohama Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda will be televised via SPEED on Saturday, August 19 at 3:00 PM ET. Round 11 continues with the Champ Car Grand Prix of Montreal at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on August 25-27 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
