Condor Motorsports recently announced their driver lineup for the 2001 Toyota Atlantic Championship. The driver lineup includes rookie Frank Dancs and up and coming driver Rocky Moran Jr.
Announcing this, team owner Carlos Bobeda said "I've been looking for a driver of Rocky's talent and am pleased to be able to team Rocky with Frank Dancs to assemble such a strong lineup." He also said that the team had greatly expanded its resources and facilities during the winter break by moving into 12,000 Sq. Ft. shop near the California Speedway in Fontana, California.
Rocky Moran Jr., 20 joined the Toyota Atlantic Championship during the mid-99 season and finished fifth in the 2000 Championship aided by seven top five finishes and also made it to the podium once. Moran Jr. was also voted into the inaugural CART All-Star Team. Hence, with the induction of Moran Jr. into the team, the lineup looks very strong. In fact, Moran Jr., who graduated from the Barber Dodge Pro Series in 1999 said, `We learned a lot during the 2000 season and last year's progress will be a springboard for our 2001 efforts.
The team has opted for a novice driver to fill the second seat. Frank Dancs, 37, will enter for the first time in the Atlantic Series. Dancs, although had a late entry to motorsports, has been very successful the sport. Born in Milwaukee this Hillsborough resident earned a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Milwaukee.
Before pursuing professional motorsports, Dancs has worked in various software firms including Ariba and Oracle. Though Dancs raced in bits and pieces in the Formula Russell Championship for the last six years, he managed to compete the full season in 1999 and 2000. His motor racing talents came ito the forefront when he finished a close second in 1999 when he ran out of fuel in the last race. However, he managed to overcome the disappointment by winning comfortably the Championship in 2000. He has shown lot of promise for the upcoming season by staging quick lap times during the preseason testing.
Apart from the driver announcements, the team has strengthened its operation by signing in Tim Lewis who joins as Race Engineer for Rocky Moran Jr. "Rocky and I have unfinished business in Atlantics," said Lewis who has worked with Moran Jr. since he competed in Toyota Atlantic. He also added that, "Carlos, both Rockys (Jr. and Sr.), and I have assembled the vital components necessary to be front runners in the Championship." The 12-race, 2001 CART Toyota Atlantic series which begins April 7 with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, acts as a front runner to the CART Championship series
