Satisfying Results for Walker Racing in Cleveland
Cleveland, OH (June 22, 2007)- Coming off of a positive race result in Portland, Walker Racing was ready to attack in provisional qualifying today for the Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by LaSalle Bank as both drivers qualified tenth and eleventh respectively.
Exuding confidence with each race weekend, Swiss rookie Simona De Silvestro (#5 Miauton), was right on form for today's qualifying. After a strong practice, earning the fifth fastest time, the Swiss Miss had a bit of a setback in qualifying after making a change in the second stint, steering the 18-year old in a different direction, clocking the eleventh quickest time of 1:07.736 seconds (111.929 mph).
Mirroring his teammate, Briton Ryan Lewis (#15 NCPI Solutions/ InSport) proved he was ready to go racing again this weekend. The 23 year-old had a strong showing in Portland two weeks ago as he scored a third and fifth place finish in the double header weekend. Today the Englishman found himself making a few mistakes, causing him to spin off track and then putting him back in traffic. Despite the circumstances, Lewis maintained a top-ten position earning the tenth fastest time of 1:07.593 seconds (112.165 mph).
Walker Racing will be back out on track tomorrow morning for official Champ Car Atlantic practice beginning at 8:50 a.m. ET. For more updates on the team please visit www.walkreracing.com <http://www.walkreracing.com/> .
What they had to say....
Ryan Lewis: "We had a good run on new tires, and we had a pretty good balance with the car. Unfortunately it was one of those qualifying sessions where, when we went out on new tires I made a couple of mistakes and spun on the tires which didn't help them and then I got stuck in traffic. I think we have a ways to go and we need to pick up the pace."
Simona DeSilvestro: "This morning we were quick, P5, and in the beginning of qualifying we had a good run on old tires, but not as good on new tires we are struggling a little bit because the balance of the car changed and then at the end I got caught in traffic. All in all I love the track, it fast and a lot of fun to drive so we will just go back tonight have a look at the data and be ready for tomorrow."
Derrick Walker: "If Ryan hadn't have had traffic issues and kept it on the island, I think we potentially we could have a top five car here, but you have to go for it here and it's the kind of track where its easy to get off on the grass a little bit and I guess we did. Unfortunately for Simona we made a couple of changes to make the car better, but it turned out not to be the case. Putting things into perspective she is driving a hell of race weekend to come here having not see the place before. She has been running consistently in the front end and if we had given her the car she would have been top three no doubt."
