Yasukawa fast despite first lap incident.
Yasukawa's goals vanished for the second straight weekend on the first lap, when he was hit from behind, causing extensive damage to his car. Last weekend in Toronto, the damage ended his day, today, the Hylton Motorsports team was able to replace the rear tow link and Rear wing in just 11 laps and get Yasukawa, a top-five championship contender back on track. Unfortunately, Yasukawa re-entered the race 11 laps down, however he displayed his typical aggressive yet consistent driving skills and set the fif th fastest time of the race. Yasukawa and his crew struggled with the #9 Swift throughout the weekend, but oddly enough, he set his fastest times of the weekend after the first lap accident, perhaps as sign of what would have been, as he proved he had a fast car for the race.
Yasukawa on the Race:
"I was hit by someone from behind on the start. It bent the tow link and the car went really loose. I was being cautious. Figge was behind me and I basically defended my line going into turn. I braked as late as I could and from there the next thing I knew he was on top of me. I think he misjudged his braking point. The team did a fantastic job replacing my rear tow link and my wing as quickly as they could. We set some very fast laps after the accident. I think I was able to demonstrate where we would have been if the incident had not happened because our times were consistently in the top five."
