. Car No. 40 will be driven by Dave Hall, of Elmsford, N.Y., for today’s final qualifying. Jimmy Pugliese, who drove the car in yesterday’s practice session, will not participate in today’s final qualifying or tomorrow s race.

FINAL QUALIFYING

5:23 p.m. - - Session begins under clear and sunny skies, temperatures in the low 80s, and high humidity.

6:57 p.m. - - Qualifying ends with no major incidents reported; this session’s fastest were: #19 MEMO GIDLEY, of San Rafael, Calif., in the Lynx Racing Ralt RT-41 at 1:09.239 = 109.49 mph. #33 BERTRAND GODIN, of St. Hyacinthe, Que., was second fastest in the Player’s Forsythe Racing Ralt RT-40 at 1:09.282 = 109.43 mph.

#43 JOAO BARBOSA, of Valongo, Portugal, was third fastest in the RDS Motorsport Toyota of Portugal/Sega of Portugal/Caetano Buses Ralt RT-41 at 1:09.284 = 109.42 mph.

THE LINEUP FOR ROUND SIX

. #66 ALEXANDRE TAGLIANI, of Lachenaie, Que., wins his FIRST CAREER Atlantic pole with a time he set during this afternoon’s provisional qualifying at 1:09.197 = 109.56 mph. . #19 MEMO GIDLEY will start on the outside pole at 1:09.239 = 109.49 mph. . #33 BERTRAND GODIN is third fastest in overall qualifying at 109.282 = 109.43 mph in the Player’s Forsythe Racing Team-prepared Ralt RT-40. . #71 JOQUIN DeSOTO, of Miami, Fla., won the C2 pole position after qualifying 21st overall in the Weld Motorsports-Canvas Software/Deneba Software Reynard 93H.

NOTES OF INTEREST

. ALEX BARRON is the only Atlantic driver to have won more than one pole position this year. Barron captured the poles at Nazareth and Milwaukee. He subsequently won both races flag-to-flag.

. TAGLIANI was actually only the fifth fastest car during the final qualifying session at 1:09.522 = 109.05 mph. . GIDLEY was the fastest in the final qualifying session with his best overall qualifying lap of 1:09.239 = 109.49 mph. . TAGLIANI s previous career-best starting positions were third place at Trois-Rivieres II last season, and this year at Long Beach and Nazareth. Tagliani won his first career Atlantic race at Long Beach in round two last April. . DeSOTO is the C2 standings leader with 68 points. DeSoto earned one bonus point for winning the C2 pole. James Irvin, of South Miami, Fla., is in second place with 36 points. . By virtue of winning today s pole position, TAGLIANI earns one bonus point moves to within 10 points of series leader BARRON, 60-50. Tagliani is currently in fourth place.
