CHRIS SMITH FORCED TO WITHDRAW AT CLEVELAND

Precision Preparation Inc. will withdraw the No. 95 entry of Chris Smith from tomorrow's Atlantic event for medical reasons. Smith, who had been receiving pain killer injections for pulled chest muscles, was admitted to the emergency room of the Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland on Saturday afternoon following a strong reaction to one of those injections. Dr. Tom Lukens, the attending physician of the emergency room at the Metro Health Medical Center, stated: "There is a small collection of air in his lung space and his lung is slightly collapsed. We are just going to take the air out of that space, so the lung will re-expand. It is a relatively minor procedure. It will take him a few days of relaxing and taking it easy to get back to normal." Driving the No. 95 MCI-sponsored Toyota, Smith posted the 10th quickest lap in Friday's Atlantic practice session with a lap time of 1:12.445 = 104.65 mph. This was his first event with Precision Preparation Inc.'s MCI Toyota Atlantic Team. He is expected to be cleared to drive next weekend in the Player's Challenge for the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship at the Molson Indy Toronto.
