TEAM KOOL GREEN AT LAGUNA SECA RACEWAY
WHAT: Honda GP - Round 17 of 20 in the CART FedEx Championship Series
WHEN: September 10 - 12
WHERE: Monterey, California
PAUL TRACY, #26 Team KOOL Green Honda/Reynard/Firestone: (Started 18th / Finished 8th at Laguna in 1998; 4th in the PPG Cup standings with 122 points)
"Team KOOL Green has not tested at Laguna Seca this season, but I don't see that as a disadvantage. We have plenty of good data on the circuit and the cars. We've shown we are as fast as anyone on the road courses. Now it's up to us to execute a mistake-free weekend. If we run a good strong race, we should end up on the podium. It takes a total team-effort and I should know because I've been there before. I've won at Laguna twice [1993 & 1994] and finished second there once . It's a tough track and you really have to work to be successful. "
DARIO FRANCHITTI , #27 Team KOOL Green Honda/Reynard/Firestone: (Started 2nd / Finished 4th at Laguna in 1998; 2nd in the PPG Cup standings with 171 points)
"We have to collect maximum points at Laguna Seca if we expect to have a chance to catch Juan Montoya for the championship [Montoya leads 194-171]. Everyone at Team KOOL Green knows we can do it; we've got a good package in terms of our equipment and the chemistry of the team. But we can't make any mistakes. It's as simple as that. We cannot expect the championship to fall into our laps. That is to say, we cannot count on Juan having any bad luck. So, that means scoring as many points as we can in the four remaining races. I still think the championship will still be up for grabs in the season-finale at Fontana."
PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Championship
Jonny Kane, #27 Team KOOL Green Lola T97/20: (11th in standings with 54 points)
"We need to recapture some of the momentum that Team KOOL Green had on its side a couple of races ago. Our last race in Chicago was a disappointment [finished 9th], but I'm feeling very confident about our return to a road course. We're looking for a strong result at Laguna Seca. Our goal is to get back on the podium, hopefully with a victory. We need to win for us to have a shot at the rookie title."
KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Championship
ALEX GURNEY, #27 Team KOOL Green Toyota/Swift: (13th in standings with 24 points)
"Last year in Barber Dodge, I qualified well at Laguna Seca but I had a problem in the race. We qualified well in Vancouver too, so we know that we have become very competitive on the road courses. Hopefully, we can have a strong showing for Team KOOL Green at Laguna. It's good to return home to go racing [Gurney is a native of Newport Beach]. There's no place like California. I'll have a lot of friends and family to cheer me on."
