Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Start/Finish Line To Become Permanent Fixture On Shoreline Drive
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 1, 2004) - The famous Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach start/finish line, which has seen drivers like Andretti, Unser, Zanardi and Tracy cross it first in previous Grands Prix, will become a permanent part of Long Beach's Shoreline Drive before next Tuesday's Toyota Pro/Celebrity Press Day.
The start/finish line will be painted with a special checkered-flag pattern with the words "Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach" written facing both directions in the eastbound lanes of Shoreline Drive. The design will be unveiled during a brief ceremony at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
"We wanted to commemorate the point where the field of Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach hopefuls can make their dreams of winning this race come true," said Jim Michaelian, president and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. "For three days, crossing this line first is the goal of every driver on the track. And for the other 362 days of the year, it will serve as a reminder of the excitement of Grand Prix in downtown Long Beach."
