Andreas Wirth Confident For A Strong 2008 Atlantic Season
Tucson, Arizona -- April 5, 2008 -- Having been unable to complete the test schedule at MSR Houston due to illness, Brooks Associates Racing driver Andreas Wirth was thrilled to have the opportunity to stretch his legs this week at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix.
"I'm really happy we had the chance to get back in the car this week. Last week was awful! I came down with the flu right after I arrived here in North America, and even though I had a few days to try to recuperate, I just couldn't handle the test at Houston" explained Wirth. "That track's really demanding at the best of times, but when you're sick and it's so bumpy -- it was just too hard. My teammate Markus (Niemela) had an injury before the test, so he wasn't doing well either, so since we couldn't really work through everything we decided to go home."
Thankfully for the Brooks squad, a week made all the difference and they made the most of the final pre-season testing opportunity in Phoenix.
"Things went really well on Thursday," reported Wirth. "It felt great to be back in the car again, and I got my confidence and speed back really fast. I was at good speed after just one morning, so I was really happy."
Summing up their two day session, Andreas said, "It was a very productive test. Actually, we tried a lot of things and went through the whole test plan that we wanted to do. Today just felt awesome -- we had some really good laps and it was fast. Yesterday it took a bit to get used to everything and get the feeling back, but today went well. I'm feeling so much better too, I'm not feeling tired or whatever -- it was great to be back. Everyone was happy with the performance of the team and it was good to achieve all that we planned."
In closing Wirth said, "It's really great to be back with the Brooks team again -- this is a great bunch of guys, and I think we'll be running up front in Long Beach -- I'm very confident and I can't wait to go racing again."
