Sprint Cup – Round 1: Free practice sessions kick-off race weekend
Free Practice 1 saw the #1 Win Motorsport Ligier JSP3 driven by Davide Rizzo take top spot overall
This weekend’s 2017 Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup - Round 1, kicked off today at the Sepang International Circuit with two free practice sessions, the first of which started at 9.45am.
Free Practice 1 saw the #1 Win Motorsport Ligier JSP3 driven by Davide Rizzo take top spot overall and in the LMP3 class with a time of 2 minutes 2.655 seconds on Lap 5. Second overall and taking first place in the GT3 class was the #59 Singha Plan B Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 piloted by Bhurit Bhirombhakdi on a time of 2 minutes 4.732 seconds. Coming in third fastest overall was yet another GT3 car; the #92 Team AAI BMW Z4 driven by Ollie Millroy who was just under a second off P1 in GT3 with 2 minutes 5.647 seconds.
Over in GT Cup it was the #77 Team NZ Porsche 997 of Graeme Dowsett and John Curran that came in first for their class with a time of 2 minutes 15.748 seconds. Second spot went to the #15 PAS Macau Racing Porsche 997 with a time of 2 minutes 16.894 seconds with drivers Wong Kian Kuan and Eurico de JESUS. In CN class, we saw the #3 Eurasia Motorsport Ligier JS53-EVO set a 2 minutes 19.053 seconds lap time with Douglas Khoo and Dominic Ang at the helm.
Free Practice 2 kicked off much later in the afternoon at 2.45pm with the weather still intensely humid. Once again the #1 Win Motorsport Ligier JSP3 of William Lok proved to be the fastest on the grid with a time of 2 minutes 03.867 seconds. Just over two seconds behind was the #27 Infinity Race Engineering ADESS 03 LMP3 with Neale Muston at the wheel on 2 minutes 05.782 seconds and placing second overall. Third spot overall and top in GT3 went to the #92 Team AAI BMW Z4 of Chi Huang with a 2 minutes 06.724 seconds lap time.
Moving onto GT Cup, Team NZ’s #77 Porsche 997 with Graeme Dowsett once again dominated the class with a time of 2 minutes 16.269 seconds. Over three seconds behind was the #15 PAS Macau Racing Porsche 997 of Eurico de Jesus with 2 minutes 19.331 seconds. The only non-participant of Free Practise 2 was the #3 Eurasia Motorsport Ligier JS53-EVO from CN class as the car had developed engine issues before the session commenced.
