KCMG's driver James Winslow talks about his debut on Asian Le Mans Series

This week our interview is with KCMG driver James Winslow. James, along with Akash Nandy and Gary Thompson, secured a victory for KCMG in the inaugural race of the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series - 3 Hours of Inje - all driving LMP for the first time.

James is also a factory Radical Australia driver, factory WEST RACE CARS AUSTRALIA driver and development driver, and is the current 2012 Australian Formula 3 Champion and 2012 Gold Star Winner.

How was 3 Hours of Inje and the start of Asian Le Mans Series for you? "The first race in the 2013 Asian Le Mans series in Inje, South Korea was a great weekend for me and the whole KCMG team.

In Korea we had 3 drivers who had never driven an LMP car previously, combined with a brand new circuit to learn. We were all very keen to get some practice laps in before the start of the race weekend, which became difficult after changeable weather and limited track time (due to technical issues with the car).

Before the start of the race my team mates and myself had only completed around 20 laps each. Gary Thompson and Akash Nandy drove fantastically all weekend, without putting a foot wrong. The team and engineer - Andrew Winsall did a fantastic job with limited track time to give us a good car against more experienced competition to win on our debut and make history winning the first ever Asian Le Mans Series race."

Do you plan on attending future Asian Le Mans Series Races? "I plan to compete in as many Asian Le Mans Series races as possible, the series is already a great place to compete and will continue to grow. With some great circuits and teams already competing I'm very happy to have the opportunity to be part of this series and hope for the opportunity to be back competing soon."

In the future will you look to go back to GT or stick with LMP? "My plan is to stick with LMP cars and work towards racing in the Le Mans 24 hour in 2014. I will race in GT cars also when opportunities arise but my main focus is with KCMG. I have driven for many teams and these guys are one of the best, and I would very much like to be one of there drivers lining up on the grid in 2014, we will have to wait and see what happens in the future.

My plan has always been to win the Le Mans 24 hour race, this has been a dream of mine since childhood and this current direction and LMP preparation is working towards that life goal."

What are your other plans for 2014? Any news to share? "I'm currently a resident of Australia, after living in the USA for many years, and originate from the UK. I race in various different series in Australia and driver coach for GT teams and Formula 3 teams.

2014 will be a busy year for me, I will concentrate on my Le Mans Series projects as well as continue my GT coaching work plus race in GT cars at Bathurst 12 hour etc. I would very much like to compete in the 2014 World Endurance Championship, and competing at Le Mans 24hr in 2014 is the proposed plan for next year all going to plan."

James and KCMG will be hoping to be on top of the podium again at Round 2 of the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series - 3 Hours of Fuji - on September 22nd.
