Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup – Round 3 preview
The final round of the 2017 Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup will be held this week at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) in Malaysia
Providing teams and drivers with a cost effective and logistically easy introduction to multiclass racing, the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup is a solid stepping stone into the full endurance Series that kicks off in October.
Leading the way in the Championship battle is Hong Kong based WIN Motorsport in their Ligier JS P3. Closing in after claiming their first race win in the previous round though is Japanese team TKS in their Ginetta LMP3. Infinity Racing Engineering have a tough battle ahead, but are still in with a chance of claiming the LMP3 team title if everything falls the right way for them.
The GT Class is much tighter with just 9 points separating Arrows Racing Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 FL2, and the Team AAI BMW Z4 GT3 after a win for each in the last round.
Team NZ have a strong lead over PAS Macau Racing, but after the team were plagued by problems in the previous round, nothing is certain in the GT Cup class.
The Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup sits at the base of the ACO’s racing pyramid in Asia, offering a perfect platform for Prototype and GT racing. The pyramid offers teams the only direct pathway to World Championships for both Prototype and GT competitors, and entry into the pinnacle of endurance racing globally, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
For this round Scott Andrews replaces Davide Rizzo alongside William Lok in the WIN Motorsport Ligier, the Australian former single seater Champion joining forces again with Lok after three previous outings together in the 2016/ 2017 Asian Le Mans Series.
