"Fike Needs Top Finishes To Overhaul Hines For Driver Of The Year Honors, Turkey Nite Next"

IRWINDALE, CA, November 20---For the third straight year the Turkey Nite Grand Prix presented by K & N Filters could be the deciding event in the National Midget Driver of the Year Standings. The 61st annual running of the event will take place on Thanksgiving night at the Irwindale speedway. It will also be the 197th event run nationwide this season. The season concludes two days later at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Current point leader Tracy Hines continues to recover from injuries suffered three weeks ago, and will not compete in the final events as second place Jay Drake continues to also recover from a separte accident in late October.

Third place A.J. Fike currently trails Hines by 120 points. Fike will needs one of the following things to happen, at Irwindale: finish third or better, or fourth and set fast time, in order to keep his title hopes alive and have a chance at winning the championship at Las Vegas.

Davey Ray, Aaron Fike, recently crowned USAC National Midget Champ Dave Darland, Matt Westfall, Badger Champ Dan Boorse, Scott Hatton, and MIke Hess round out the top ten. A total of 547 drivers have scored points this year, four short of the all-time record set in 1999.

Stealth, and Gaerte have clinched the Manufacturers Championship's in the Chassis, and Engine category. The top ten drivers and manufacturers champions will recieve their awards prior to the start of the O'Reilly Chili Bowl National on Saturday January 12, at the Tulsa Expo raceway.
