Allgaier Looking for a Win at Winchester
Winchester, IN (May 4, 2007) -Justin Allgaier heads to the Winchester Speedway for the 20th running of the Winchester ARCA 200, Sunday, May 6, 2007. This will be Allgaier's third start at the short track in Winchester, Indiana. Last year Allgaier sat on the outside pole for the 200 lap event leading a total of 48 laps. Allgaier was in the lead when the field came to a restart with only four laps to go and he looked to bring home a win -- instead a fierce battle ensued. Going into turn-one competitor, Brett Rowe went on the inside to try to gain the lead but ended up sliding both he and Allgaier into the wall. Both drivers were able to regain control of their vehicles and were racing side by side down the backstretch before heavy contact in turn three spun both cars ending Allgaier's chance at victory in Winchester. Allgaier stayed on the lead lap finishing the race under green/white/checkered flag conditions, settling for a seventh place finish.
"We were great right off the truck last year in Winchester," Allgaier said. "We thought we were going to score our first win here but it wasn't meant to be. Winchester is a tough track to run on the bottom and Brett (Rowe) came up the track putting us both in the wall. I was able to keep going making the cross over to the inside trying to keep the lead but when we went into the corner he spun collecting both of us. We have some pretty heavy damage from the incident, but its short track racing. We are really excited about coming back this season and trying to take the win this year."
Allgaier heads into the sixth race of the 23 race ARCA RE/MAX schedule in the Championship Points lead by 95 points over eight-time Champion Frank Kimmel.
"I know that the whole points deal is not going to stop until the end of the year," Allgaier said. "I'm just trying to enjoy it while it lasts. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about it, but we are dealing with it, not changing our program and continuing to follow the goal we set at the beginning of the year. We are trying to just finish every race on the lead lap and so far we've been able to accomplish that except for one race. We've only had one finish out of the top-10, but are realistic that we will have bad weeks. That's where we will be able to fall back on the point's lead we've been building. Our team has really stepped up this year. I'm learning patience in the car, and I think that's had a big effect on our overall effort."
Practice for the Winchester ARCA 200 is Saturday, May 5, from 1:30-3:00pm CT with qualifying beginning at 4:15pm CT. The 20th running of the Winchester ARCA 200 is slated to begin at 1:00pm CT, Sunday, May 6, 2007.
