ARCA RE/MAX Series Defending Champ Kimmel Looking for 10th Career Toledo Win
TOLEDO OH (8-11-06)--From superspeedways to short tracks, Frank Kimmel is well versed in all things racing. With the exception of Daytona, Talladega and the yet-to-be-completed Iowa Speedway, the seven-time and defending ARCA RE/MAX Series champion has conquered every track currently on the 23-race season schedule.
Kimmel, who is second to Iggy Katona on the all-time win list with 60 plus victories in the nationally touring stock car series, has nine wins at Toledo Speedway. He'll get his chance to earn a record shattering 10th victory on Friday evening, September 1st, when the Hantz Group 200 rolls off LIVE on SPEED at 9 p.m. Eastern.
But in order to make it to victory lane, Kimmel will have to battle a full field of eager rookies and crafty veterans, including some names very familiar to Toledo Speedway. Brian Keselowski, who earned his career-first ARCA RE/MAX Series win at Berlin Raceway in July, is among those entered for the 200-lap short track thriller. As the 2002 Late Model Champion at the quick, .5-mile paved oval, Keselowski has all the credentials to become a serious threat for the win at Toledo on September 1st.
Michael Simko, a second-generation racer from Clarkston, Michigan, is also entered for the Hantz Group 200. When he's not racing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Simko is an accomplished short track racer, with much success in Late Models at Toledo Speedway.
Other expected entries include four-time Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart, Brent Sherman, Justin Allgaier, Blake Bjorklund, Dexter Bean and Brett Rowe, all of which intend to beat Kimmel to the checkered flag on September 1st.
Kimmel's last win at Toledo came one year ago, when he held off David Ragan by about two feet to win the hard-fought, action-packed Hantz Group 200. He finished third when the RE/MAX Series made its annual spring appearance to Toledo in May behind race winner Ken Schrader and runner-up driver Allgaier. Now, he's hoping to bring home a win in spectacular fall fashion.
Reserved seating tickets for the Hantz Group 200 presented by Belle Tire are available in advance by calling Toledo Speedway (419) 727-1100. For up-to-date information on the ARCA RE/MAX Series, visit arcaracing.com.
