In the final race of the season, Patrick Sheltra steered clear of the messy on-track activity to collect his second straight top-five finish with a fourth in Sunday's Hantz Group 200 by Belle Tire & Federated Car Care. The effort also awarded Sheltra with his third consecutive top-10 effort at the half-mile oval. Earlier this year, Sheltra finished second at Toledo Speedway and finished seventh at legendary short track in this same event a year earlier.
Using patience and guidance, Sheltra maneuvered from his mid-pack starting position to put himself cleanly into the top-10 just past the half-way mark of the 200-lap event. From there, Sheltra maneuvered his neon green Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS into the top-five before making a pit stop inside 25 laps remaining hoping to gain an advantage on the rest of his competition.
Restarting eighth, Sheltra picked up four positions on the track but ran out of laps and had to settle for his fourth top-five finish of the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season.
With the effort, Sheltra locked sixth in the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship point standings up one position from seventh which Sheltra notched in his first season of competition in 2007.
FROM THE COCKPIT:"A total team effort. We had a good car, just ran out of laps. It was a crazy race today. A lot of messy contact. We played it smart and avoided the wrecks which put us near the front at the end of the race. The last restart of the day didn't go well for us otherwise; I think we would have had something for the top three. It happens. I'm really proud of my guys for their hard work this season and we'll be back and better than ever in 2009. I also have to thank our marketing partners for their continued support all year long. This year would not have been possible without them."
Sheltra added, "Congratulations to Justin Allgaier. I'm really happy for him!"
With the ARCA RE/MAX Series complete, Sheltra will now shift his attention to the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) where the Sheltra Motorsports team will compete in the final two events of the NNS season at Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway both occurring in November. The team will run Dodge Chargers.
