TOP-TEN AND A WIN FOR MARKS IN DOUBLE-HEADER AT TOLEDO SPEEDWAY
CONCORD, NC (10-15-07) As the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series came to an close at Toledo Speedway this past weekend, Justin Marks had every reason to walk away with a smile. Along with taking home another top-ten in Sunday's Hantz Group 200 by Belle Tire, Marks also walked away with his first career oval track win in the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series race.
"It was exciting to win in the truck race because it was the first time I have ever won on an oval track," Marks said. "The guys at Future Motorsports have given me good trucks all year and I knew we could win a race this year. This being our last opportunity, we just tried to capitalize on what we had and it paid off. I have really enjoyed driving in the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series because it gave me an opportunity to gain more seat time on the short tracks, which is what I knew would be most challenging for me this year."
With a disappointing 20th starting position in Sunday's ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) race, the team knew they would have their hands full. But with some patient driving by Marks and strategic pit calls by crew chief, Robby Benton, the team was again able to walk away with a top-ten, finishing seventh.
"This race was an example of how you can make these races go your way when you don't really have a car that is capable of winning," Marks said. "Our strategy was to try to capitalize on the attrition and keep our nose clean. We were a little tight all weekend, but the last part of the race was the best this car had been all weekend. It was one of those days where we persevered and brought home the best finish we could. I am really proud of these guys."
For a season that started off less than stellar, this seventh place finish marked the eighth consecutive top-ten for RAB Racing and Justin Marks. Marks and RAB Racing also finished fifth in both the ARS owner and driver's Championship point standings.
"I am so excited and proud to be finishing fifth in points. It really goes to show how when you have a lot of bad luck and things don't go your way, if you keep a positive attitude and continue to bring the most competitive equipment to the track, then when your luck does turn around, good things can happen."
Marks joined RAB Racing in late 2006 and had only competed in five ARS races with RAB Racing before running the full ARS season in 2007. With five DNF's and ten top-tens among the 23 scheduled ARS races, Marks' rollercoaster season has been one to remember.
"It was a huge learning experience for me," Marks continued. "This was the first time in my career that I have gone to a new type of racing and a new type of race car, so this year was definitely a learning experience for me. I had a whole bunch of things thrown at me and I've endured a lot, so I look forward to taking all of it and applying it to the next level of my career. I have also been very blessed to have made a lot of good friends this year as well as got the opportunity to work with some great sponsors like Construct Corps and Crocs. It's easily been the most fun season since I have been racing."
RAB Racing has not yet announced plans for the upcoming 2008 season.
