Todd Bowsher, driver of the Safe Auto Insurance Ford, finished 17th after starting 26th Friday in the ARCA 200 presented by Hamot & Biomet at Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pennsylvania.
The Jack Bowsher & Associates Motorsports team brought a new race car to Lake Erie, which posed some problems for the team. The car arrived at the Bowsher shop on Tuesday, leaving only 2 ½ days to work on it before loading up and heading to North East, Pennsylvania. After 1 ½ hours of practice, Bowsher posted the 23rd quickest speed. In spite of problems during qualifying, Bowsher was 26th fastest. But the problems that were encountered during qualifying required much work by the crew between qualifying and the start of the race. Since this was an impound race, Bowsher had to move to the back of the 35 car field when the 200 lap event began. After the race began, he moved quickly to the 24th spot and remained there for most of the first half of the race. Bowsher brought the #21 in to the crew's attention on lap 134 for right side tires and fuel. He continued to pick off positions as the race wound down, finishing in the 17th spot.
After the race, Bowsher said, "We were obviously hoping for a better finish. We brought a new car here to Lake Erie. With the short amount of time that we had to work on this car at the shop, practice and qualifying presented some problems which forced us to start the race at the back of the field. Now, that we have had a race with this car, we can go home and really prepare it for the next short track. But our immediate focus is on our next race at Nashville Speedway."
A big "thank you" to Mark Knupp Motorsports for all of their help this week, especially to Andy Shaver, who came down to the shop to help the Bowsher team get the car ready to go to the track. The entire Knupp team helped the #21 team at the track between qualifying and the race.
Bowsher remains in 10th in the ARCA RE/MAX series year long points race. Bowsher was awarded the Hoosier Hard Charger Award after the race for improving the most positions during the race. Frank Kimmel, Billy Venturini, Ken Weaver, Chad McCumbee, and Bobby Gerhart finished in the top five.
The next race for the Jack Bowsher & Associates Motorsports team is Saturday, August 13, for the ARCA 200 at the Nashville Speedway. The 150 lap event will be televised live on SPEED Channel at 2 pm EST. Bowsher's best finish at Nashville is 11th in 2001.
