Todd Bowsher, driver of the Safe Auto Insurance Ford, started 33rd and finished 15th Saturday in the SK Hand Tool 200 at Chicagoland Speedway.
Practice and qualifying took place on Friday with Bowsher posting the 37th speed in practice and qualifying 33rd on the grid. When the race began Bowsher started his move forward. The #21 crew brought the car in for the first pit stop on lap 10 for fuel only. The next stop for four tires, fuel and minor handling adjustments happened on lap 31. By the next pit stop Bowsher had the car in the 26th spot. As the race continued, Bowsher kept picking off positions. By lap 92 he was in the 21st position. After another four tire and fuel pit stop, Bowsher was ready for the last 30 laps of the 134 lap event. As the race came to a close, Bowsher continued picking up spots, finishing in 15th.
After the race, Bowsher said, "Mission accomplished. We did what we needed to do here. I finally finished a race here at Chicago-the first time in 4 years. We had a decent race, good pit stops and a good points day. We are really looking forward to our next race at Salem Speedway next Saturday for our final short track race of the season. We would like to bring a victory to Safe Auto at Salem and continue our climb in the points race." Bowsher will try to continue the tradition which his father, Jack Bowsher, began at Salem in 1963-1965 when he won all five Salem races in those years. Todd's best finishes at Salem include a 5th place in the April, 2005 race and also in 2001.
Dawayne Bryan, David Ragan, Joey Miller, Steve Wallace, and Tim Steele were the top five finishers. Bowsher is 7th in the year long ARCA RE/MAX series points race.
The next race for the Jack Bowsher & Associates Motorsports team is Saturday for the Eddie Gilstrap Motors Fall Classic by Advance Auto Parts at the .555-mile Salem Speedway. Practice is scheduled for 2:00 EST with qualifying at 5:00 EST. The 200 lap event begins at 8:15 EST.
