Rookie Hopeful For Seventh Win
September 27, 2004 (Mooresville, North Carolina) - The incredible ARCA RE/MAX Series season of "Rookie Sensation" Ryan Hemphill and his TRIMSPA team comes to an end this weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway. The 22-year-old heads into the famed 2.66 mile tri-oval in search of his seventh win of the season as he pilots his #64 TRIMSPA DODGE in the season finale running of the Food World 300.
"This will be a bittersweet week at the track," said Hemphill. "This year has been so much fun and it seems just like yesterday that we started this thing in Daytona. The people of ARCA should be proud of the product that they have put out there this year and I have really enjoyed my time running in the series - I do not know what my plans are for next year but I would not mind coming back and running for the championship. But first, I would like to end this season on a strong note with another win."
This will be the career debut for Hemphill at Talladega although he has logged many miles around the track in testing a Cup car and a Craftsman truck, and just last week in his TRIMSPA DODGE. The team will bring back with them the same car that Ryan finished fifth with at the season opener in Daytona. Since then, the Braun Racing team has made some repairs to the TRIMSPA DODGE and has fine tuned the aero package on the car as well, and that showed in a strong test last week at the track.
The season that Hemphill has experienced in the ARCA RE/MAX Series has been well chronicled and ranks up there with some of the other impressive rookies who have competed in the series. Entering Talladega, the Apollo, Pennsylvania native has competed in 13 events this season and posted some highly impressive stats - six wins, six poles and two new track records (both at Nashville). He hopes to raise his winning percentage to an astounding 50% by garnering his seventh win in his 14th race this weekend.
"That would be an incredible accomplishment for sure," stated Ryan. "There will be a strong field of cars this week and anything can really happen at a track like Dega. I hope that we can just stay out of trouble and give ourselves a chance there at the end. No matter what happens, the guys on this TRIMSPA team have done one heck of a job all season and I owe them for all of the success we have had together. And along with the support from TRIMSPA and Ernie Elliott Engines, we have had all of the pieces of the puzzle in place. Let's go out there this weekend and have some fun and let the chips fall where they may - and hopefully they are in our favor."
The green flag for the running of the Food World 300 is scheduled to wave at 1:00 p.m. CST with LIVE coverage on SPEED CHANNEL.
