Passmore Looking to Turn Michigan Momentum into Success at South Boston Short Track:
Christi Passmore has endured nine races in the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX season that have felt a lot like a roller coaster ride. But this past weekend Passmore found herself back at the top when she earned a fifth place finish at the Michigan International Speedway. This weekend Passmore will change gears from speedway to short track as the series heads to the half-mile short track of South Boston Speedway. Passmore, who has competed at South Boston once in her ARCA RE/MAX career, is hoping that the momentum from her career best finish will carry through to this tough short track.
"We had a really strong run at Michigan and we were good throughout practices, qualifying and the race," said Passmore. "This is the type of run that we had been looking for over the past several races. We have been so strong this season, but unable to get the finish that reflects our success during the event. Michigan was just a great boost for everyone and I am looking forward to another strong run at South Boston this weekend."
Short tracks have not always been kind to Passmore in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, but as she has run more events and gained more experience in the stock cars, her starting and finishing positions have improved. This season, Passmore has competed in two short track events, one at Toledo Speedway and one at Salem Speedway. A broken clutch at Salem took Passmore out of the event early , while an accident at Toledo Speedway ended her day after a strong tenth place qualifying position. Passmore will be racing at South Boston this weekend with the same race car she took to Toledo and ran well with, car '14'. This is a sister car to her favorite speedway car of the 2004 season, car '15'. Both cars were built at the Mooresville, North Carolina shop over the off season and while '14' required repair following the Toledo event, it took part in the test session last week at Lake Erie Speedway showing it was back to success form.
"I'm excited about running '14' again this weekend," said Passmore. "We have had a lot of luck with '15' this season and '14' has a lot of the same characteristics only based on running at a short track. South Boston is a tricky little short track, but it can also be a lot of fun to race on. Being that I raced sprint cars on short tracks throughout my early career, I should love them, but racing them in a stock car is a lot different."
The South Boston ARCA 200 can be seen Live on Speed Channel at 8:00pm ET on Saturday, June 26.
