Top-Ten Finish Gives Allgaier Points Lead
Salem, IN (April 24, 2007)- Justin Allgaier brought home a top-10 finish Sunday at the Salem Speedway in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 by Federated Auto Parts. Allgaier's tenth place finish in the event allowed him to take sole possession of the ARCA points lead heading into this weekend's event at the Kansas Speedway.
Allgaier qualified in the third position, posting a time of 17.919 seconds and a speed of 111.502 miles per hour for the 200-lap race. When the green flag dropped, Allgaier was able to maintain his top-five position until he pitted during a caution period early in the race. Allgaier was hoping to use pit strategy to make a late race charge back to the front, but when the other competitors did not pit it sent him to the end of the line when the race restarted. Allgaier worked his way back to the eighth position when Bobby Gerhart blew a tire directly in the path of Allgaier's No. 16 Hoosier Midwest-Auto Xpress-USAF Chevrolet. Allgaier was unable to avoid Gerhart's wreckage and sustained damage to the front of his car. His crew was able to make repairs to the car and get him back on the track for the final laps of the race. Allgaier was able to once again make his way from the back of the pack to the tenth position as the checkered flag flew.
"We were pretty good during the race but we pitted early under caution hoping to use the strategy for a late race charge," Allgaier said. "But none of the other lead lap cars pitted with us so we had to work our way back through the pack. Then late in the race (Bobby) Gerhart blew a tire and came across the track -- it killed the nose on our car, but we were able to pit, fix some of the damage and stay on the lead lap. Once again we had to go to the back, but we managed to work through traffic and pulled off a tenth place finish. We'll take it and head on to Kansas and try to keep the momentum rolling. We have to look at the big picture and that is the fact that we left Salem holding the point lead by ourselves. Momentum and consistency will be the key factors at Kansas and Kentucky."
Allgaier leads the ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship Points standings by 60 points over eight-time champion Frank Kimmel as the series travels to the Kansas Speedway. The Kansas Lottery $150 Grand ARCA RE/MAX race is slated to begin on Friday, April 27th at 5:00 pm ET and will be televised live on SPEED.
