Allgaier Slays Salem ARCA RE/MAX Series Race
Salem, Indiana (September 16, 2007) -Justin Allgaier scored his first 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series win after dominating the Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 by Advance Auto Parts Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Salem Speedway.
Allgaier qualified fourth for the 200 lap race at the .555-mile short track with a time of 17.878 seconds at a speed of 111.757 mph. The No. 16 Chevrolet Monte Carlo nicknamed "Gator" was superior from the start of the race putting Allgaier in the lead five times for a total of 73 laps at the Salem, Indiana oval track.
"We really weren't that good in practice," Allgaier said. "We made a bunch of adjustments right before qualifying and I really wasn't sure what the car was going to do. We were good all night but started to get tight at the end. You can never count anyone out here I knew Frank (Kimmel) and Michael (McDowell) were good. Last year we wanted to win here in Salem and we screwed up and in DuQuoin this year we had a car that could win and I had problems there too. I guess that this win is my payback to this team for some of the races I screwed up. What a place to win here in Salem with the high banks and all the action. Brian Keselowski had the car to beat and we didn't have anything for him but I saw him backing up to us real quick and I knew he had a problem. I had hoped it hadn't been something terminal -- they are fighting for points just like we are but they came over the radio and said that he had a tire go down and got into the fence. I guess it just goes to show you how fast you can go from the front to the back."
"I was getting a little nervous when we kept having these late race cautions with 20 to go, 15 to go, 10 to go, then we had a four lap dash to the checkered at the end but we managed to pull away and get the win. There was a lot of really good competition out there tonight and it sure feels good to have put a win in the books in 2007. I have to thank all the guys on this team and everyone that supports us -- this team is a total group effort. We've had a lot of ups and downs this year and these guys on this team have worked day and night to get these cars ready. I'm really proud that I can get them a win."
This is Allgaier's second career ARCA RE/MAX Series win. Allgaier's first victory came at his home track at the Illinois State Fairgrounds dirt track in August 2006.
After 21 races of the 23 race 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series, Allgaier sits solidly in the fourth place position in driver points 145 points behind the third place position as well as 145 points ahead of the fifth place position.
The second to last ARCA RE/MAX Series race is slated for the Talladega Superspeedway, Friday October 5, 2007.
