NOTES OF INTEREST: 44 drivers from 14 states will attempt to make the starting grid for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200, the 64th ARCA event held at Salem since the series first raced there in 1955. 4 former ARCA champions are entered including Bill Baird ‘99, Tracy Leslie ’88, Frank Kimmel ’98 and Tim Steele ’93, ’96 & ’97. The event marks the return of Steele to full-time ARCA competition. The 3-time ARCA champ won 4 of the previous 5 ARCA races he has entered at Salem. More than 1/3rd of the 63 events have been won from the pole. Benny Parsons sat on the pole at Salem every race from April 1968 through September of '69 for a total of 7 consecutive pole awards, more than any other ARCA driver in Salem history. Jack Bowsher, car owner for Leslie, is the all-time winner here with 5 victories. 19-time ARCA winner Bob Schacht is entered. Schacht won the last 500-lapper held at Salem on 10/8/89 driving a Buick, the last Buick to win here. Additional entrants include veterans Bob Strait (former 2-time Salem winner), Bobby Gerhart, Dill Whittymore, Eric Smith, Mark Gibson, Andy Belmont, Joe Cooksey and Jeff Finley to name a few. Some of the rookies attempting to make the starting grid at Salem include Kirk Shelmerdine, Shawna Robinson, Karla Lampe, Brian Ross, Mike Harmon and Anthony Hill. Former ARCA winners at Salem also include Bobby Allison, Parsons, Troy Ruttman, Iggy Katona, Ramo Stott, Bob Keselowski and Ken Schrader.
