Salem Short Track Next for Foster: With 19 races of experience behind him in his ARCA RE/MAX Series career, Ryan Foster is looking forward to heading back to the Salem Speedway where he made his first ARCA short track start earlier this season. Foster has earned impressive runs on both speedways and short tracks this season and turned heads in the spring when he finished ninth at the challenging Salem half-mile. This weekend Foster returns to Salem focused on another top-ten finish as he looks to finish out his rookie season with a string of strong finishes.
"I really liked Salem when we ran here in the spring," said Foster. "Because the race shop is right down the road, we did get to test here prior to that first race so I guess I do have more track time here than I have had at a lot of the race tracks we have been at this season. This is a pretty tough little track and the beating and banging can get pretty intense as the race goes on, but I have a lot more experience now than I did the first time we came here this season so hopefully I can hold my own and start a string of top finishes in these final three races of the season."
Foster is currently sixth in ARCA RE/MAX Series points entering this weekend's race and sits 165 points out of the fifth position. Foster is also second in ARCA Rookie of the Year points, only 12 points out of first place. When a string of bad luck hit Foster for three straight race weekends, he fell from the third place in points and has continued to battle his way back and hopes to claw his way back into the fifth position before the checkered flag falls on the 2006 season.
"The point's race and the rookie battle are both real important to us," said Foster. "I know that those are things that team owners in the NASCAR series look real close at and that is the direction that I want my career to go in so the higher I can finish in the points and if I can win the Rookie of the Year award, that might be something that would catch someone's eye."
The Eddie Gilstrap Motors Fall Classic is scheduled to take the green flag at 7:00pm ET on Saturday, September 16 from the Salem Speedway.
