Carter Preserves No. 2 in Driver Points at Pocono
Long Pond, PA (June 7, 2008) Matt Carter and the No. 46 Stine Seed Ford Fusion rolled off the starting grid Saturday in the No. 8 position for the ARCA RE/MAX Series Pocono 200 at Pocono Raceway. Carter maneuvered the No. 46 Stine Seed Ford Fusion machine to the No. 5 position and maintained track placement throughout the first portion of the race. About midway through, turn three opened up and tried to get the best of Carter.
"The car just got loose and we ran out of track", said Carter. "We made two pit stops to try to pull the fenders out - the last one was under caution." After the yellow, Carter pulled out of the pits in the No. 8 position to restart the race. He maintained his position inside the top ten until the last lap. A caution was thrown, and the Pocono 200 winner would then be determined by a green, white, checkered finish.
"We were in the No. 6 position on the restart," said Carter. "We cut a right rear tire on the last lap, came in twelfth and limped her on home. The car was off and wasn't as good as it had been. Overall, it was a pretty uneventful day but it was cool to race here at Pocono. We were way off from where we needed to be, but hopefully we'll get better for next time." Even though Carter crossed the finish line the twelfth position he did manage to hold his No. 2 stance in ARCA RE/MAX Series Driver Points Standings.
"All in all to race here was awesome," said Carter. "The last time I was here, I was hanging out in the pits watching the race. I never dreamed I'd race here." Carter traveled the NASCAR circuit watching his father, Travis Carter, win races and championships as a crew chief and car owner. Now, Travis Carter travels the ARCA RE/MAX series circuit as a crew chief for his son. The Carter father/son duo will travel next, Father's Day Weekend, to Michigan International Speedway to compete in the Racing for Wildlife 200. The green flag is set to drop on Friday, June 13 at 5:15 pm EST. You can watch Carter and the No. 46 Stine Seed Ford Fusion roll off pit road live on SPEED.
