Busch wins Old Milwaukee Pole at Pocono; breaks Mears' track record

LONG POND PA (7-24-03) Kyle Busch became the first ARCA RE/MAX Series driver in history to officially break the 170 mph barrier at Pocono Raceway.

Busch, in the Hendrick Motorsports Ditech.com Chevrolet, set a new one lap track record Thursday in Old Milwaukee Pole Qualifying with a lap of 170.849 mph for Saturday's Pennsylvania ARCA 200. The new mark eclipsed Casey Mears' old record of 169.802 set back in June.

Mears, who won the ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Michigan Int'l Speedway in June, will start outside pole in the Ganassi Racing Target Dodge.

Christian Fittipaldi, in the Petty Enterprises Cheerios Dodge, qualified third. David Reutimann, making his career-first ARCA RE/MAX Series start in the Morgan-McClure Kodak Pontiac, qualified fourth.

Current ARCA RE/MAX Series point leader and four-time series champion Frank Kimmel was the fastest among the ARCA regulars in fifth ahead of AJ Henriksen, Brent Sherman, Jimmy Henderson, Jason Jarrett and Shelby Howard to complete the top-10.

The Pennsylvania 200 is scheduled to get underway at 1 pm eastern Saturday with same-day coverage on SPEED Channel from 8 pm -10 pm eastern.
