Carter Heads to 'The Poconos' for the Pennsylvania ARCA 200
Statesville, NC (07-30-08) ARCA RE/MAX series points contender Matt Carter and the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion team are packing up and heading to the Pocono Mountains to compete in Saturdays' Pennsylvania ARCA 200. Heading into this weekends' race at Pocono, Carter sits fourth in championship points and currently holds the third spot in contention for SunTrust Rookie of the Year. Car owner, Larry Clement, is extremely satisfied with the effort and achievements by the team thus far in the 2008 season.
"Matt has just done a great job in the car," stated Clement. "To be half way through the season and to be fourth in Championship points, have already won a race, already led almost as many laps as we did last year, and to have completed more laps than anybody else in the series is just fantastic."
Carter will make his return appearance to the 2.5 mile tri-oval at Pocono Raceway to mark the 13th race on the 2008 series season schedule. His efforts at Pocono in June, earned him an eighth place position on the starting grid and a 12th place finish after enduring a cut right rear tire with only a few laps to go until the checkered flag.
"We are bringing the same car we ran at Michigan and at Pocono in June," said Carter. "We aren't really going to adjust anything from our last run here. We changed some things on the front end, but we are coming back to Pocono with pretty much the same setup we ran before."
At Pocono, it's the triangle trademark that makes the track so unique within the superspeedway category. For Carter and other drivers, it's not all about the aerodynamics like at most superspeedways; it's about shifting gears.
"It's definitely different racing at Pocono," explained Carter. "I down shift in turns one and two, up on the short shoot, shift down thru the tunnel turn, and then shift up to overdrive on the front stretch. Last time we only shifted twice and this time it's four times in one lap. The most important thing is to make sure to be smooth when you shift so you don't blow up or strip a gear. I am just going to drive as hard as I can and try to limit my mistakes."
Carter and the No. 46 Fort Dodge Animal Health/Stine Seed Ford Fusion will take to the pavement for the Pennsylvania ARCA 200 at 1 p.m. Eastern Saturday, August 2. The ARCA RE/MAX series will get the race weekend event underway beginning Friday, August 1 with series practice at 10:15 a.m. and SIM Factory Pole Qualifying to follow later in the day at 1:45 p.m. Eastern.
