NOTES OF INTEREST: Another healthy crop of ARCA warriors are entered for the Pocono ARCA 200, the 30th running of an ARCA event at the 2.5-mile Pocono triangle since 1983. However, the first ARCA race staged at Pocono was in 1969 on the ¾-mile oval won by Bobby Watson in a Dodge. The ARCA series did not return to Pocono until July of '83 when Bob Schacht won in a Pontiac with an average speed of 123.288 mph. Of the drivers currently entered, 9 are Pennsylvanians including ’99 Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart. Additional Pennsylvania drivers include Tom Eriksen, America Online driver Andy Belmont, CW Smith, Tim Bainey, Dave Adcock, Grant Andrews, Jim Lamoreaux and Norm Benning. 3-time ARCA champion Tim Steele, who has returned fulltime to the ARCA tour for 2000, is the all-time ARCA winner at Pocono with 7 victories followed by Schacht with 6 and Bob Keselowski with 5. Mike Wallace has 3, Jimmy Horton 2 and 1-time winners include Blaise Alexander, Ben Hess, Bobby Jacks, Frank Kimmel, Jeff Purvis and Lee Raymond. Steele has not run at Pocono since July of ’98 however, the Coopersville, MI driver has won the last 5 consecutive events he has entered at Pocono. 11 ARCA races at Pocono have been won from the pole.
