June 15, 2004 (Mooresville, North Carolina) - With the heart of the race season in full swing Ryan Hemphill welcomes the chance to go to the race track each week, and with the way this 22-year-old is running who would blame him. This week the ARCA RE/MAX Series "Superstar Rookie" heads to the Michigan International Speedway with his #64 TRIMSPA DODGE for the running of the Flagstar 200.
"This will be a very special weekend for many people at Michigan," said Ryan. "Michigan is where this Braun Racing team won their first ARCA race a few years back with Chad Blount. Also, a lot of big name drivers have won this race and I would really like to add my name to that list. I have never raced at the track but we have adjusted to these speedway tracks pretty quickly and I would expect the same this weekend."
Hemphill and his Braun Racing team will be arriving at MIS with a "loaded gun" so to speak. Ryan will be piloting the car that he has used to earn his 3 wins and 3 Pork Poles thus far this season. All of this has been accomplished in just the last four events that the car has been run (Nashville, Kentucky, Lowe's & Kansas).
"This car is an old Chip Ganassi Racing car that was out of the Sterling Marlin stable of cars," states Hemphill. "We got a little damage on the front end of it at Nashville and I think the guys did a fantastic job repairing it and making it even better than it was there - and it was good as we set a new track record in qualifying and led most of the race. The last time out with this car at Kansas it was flawless and I am sure my guys will have it dialed-in again for me. Along with a strong engine from Ernie Elliott - I expect that we will have a very strong car this weekend."
The Apollo, Pennsylvania native will be making his 8th start of the season in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. In his seven previous starts, Ryan has compiled some very impressive stats with three Pork Pole awards, a new track record at Nashville, three wins and six top-10 finishes.
The rookie is also leading the current standings for the Rookie of the Year honor and stands 5th in the ARCA RE/MAX Series overall point's standings despite having run one less race than the rest of the competitors.
The green flag for the running of the Flagstar 200 is scheduled to wave at 1:00 p.m. EST with same day tape-delay coverage on SPEED Channel at 8:00 p.m. EST the same evening.
