NOTES OF INTEREST: The Michigan ARCA RE/MAX 200 will be the 18th ARCA RE/MAX Series race held at MIS since the series first raced here in 1980. Considering the ARCA RE/MAX Series was born in Toledo OH in 1953, with its current home offices in nearby Temperance MI, MIS, located just an hour away, is considered by many as ARCA's hometown superspeedway. All-time winners at MIS include Jeff Purvis ('93, '94 & '95) and 3-time RE/MAX Series champion Tim Steele ('96, '97 & '00). Additional winners include Joe Ruttman ('80), Billie Harvey ('80), Tracy Leslie ('90), Dave Mader ('91), Stanley Smith ('91), Bob Keselowski ('92), Ron Barfield ('96), Mark Thompson ('97), Frank Kimmel ('98), David Keith ('99) and Kerry Earnhardt ('01). Keith joins Ruttman as the only driver who has won from the pole at MIS. Only Purvis and Steele are repeat winners here at MIS. Current point leader Frank Kimmel is on a roll with 5 victories (Salem, Gateway, Kentucky twice & Lowe's) in '01 and 5 Old Milwaukee Pole Awards. In addition, Kimmel has led 723 laps this year in 11 races. Kimmel's crew chief and brother Bill Kimmel leads the Cornwell Tools Crew Chief award as well as the Clevite/Victor Reinz Mechanic of the Year honors. 2nd-generation driver Todd Bowsher, whose father Jack Bowsher is a 3-time ARCA RE/MAX driving champion, has closed to within 10 points of Jason Jarrett in the run for ARCA Rookie of the Year honors. Bowsher, who had a career-best 4th place finish last Friday at Kentucky Speedway, has been ARCA's highest finishing rookie in the last 5 events.
