Passmore Concludes Solid Day at Michigan with Fifth Place Finish; Tying Career Best
Brooklyn. Michigan (June 21, 2004) -- It has not been a secret this season that Christi Passmore has had a hard time finding any racing luck at the end of an ARCA RE/MAX Series event. But after a solid weekend of practice and qualifying at the two-mile Michigan International Speedway, Passmore ended the day where she had run all afternoon, in the top five. Passmore equaled her career best finish of fifth in the Flagstar 200 after qualifying in the sixth position.
"We had a really solid performance all weekend," said Passmore. "We were fast in practice, fast in qualifying and were able to run up front throughout the race. The team gave me an awesome race car. Bob (Schacht) made quite a few changes after happy hour on Friday because we were fighting a loose condition. The changes worked great and I was able to drive the car just about anywhere on the race track. It was a good race for us and exactly what this entire team needed. We have been struggling with bad luck for most of the races this season even though we have had really strong runs in the top ten before the bad luck strikes. I really think this momentum will carry us into South Boston, we just need to get back on track with the right finishes."
Passmore scored another fifth place finish earlier this season at the Kentucky Speedway as well as a fifth place finish last season at the Talladega Superspeedway. 2004 has been a difficult season for Passmore, who was in the 12th position in championship points heading into the Michigan event. Passmore hopes to make the turn in her sophomore ARCA RE/MAX Series season with consistent top five and top ten finishes.
"We know we have the equipment and the team to perform well every weekend," said Passmore. "People keep telling us that bad luck happens in racing and after the way this season has been going, I certainly believe it. My team has never really let it get to them; they just keep working hard knowing that it will pay off with solid finishes to back up the solid runs."
The next event on the ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule is the South Boston ARCA 200 from the half-mile South Boston Speedway in Virginia. The race can be seen Live on Speed Channel this Saturday, June 26 at 8:00pm ET.
