KIMMEL's 401st at TIM RICHMOND MEMORIAL ARCA 200 JULY 17th
MANSFIELD, Ohio (July 8, 2010) - When Frank Kimmel arrives at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park for the July 17th Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200, it will be as one of America's most celebrated stock car drivers. The event will mark his 401st start in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards.
Often referred to as, "the Richard Petty of ARCA," Kimmel, 48, of Clarksville, Ind., is a genuine American racing hero. This year marks Kimmel's 20th anniversary in ARCA competition. Over the past two decades, Kimmel has won a record nine ARCA Racing Series championships, 74 wins and led more than 10,000 laps of competition. He has posted ARCA wins at 26 different tracks from bullrings to superspeedways and three different dirt tracks. Kimmel placed third in the Series 2009 point chase.
He has won at three Ohio short tracks including Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraff, Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia, and Toledo Speedway in Toledo, where he made his first career ARCA start in 1990.
Kimmel has made 30 career starts at Toledo, a half-mile oval with similarities to the Mansfield track, and won nine of them including four in a row spanning 2000-2003.
Through the first eight races of 2010, Kimmel has had three top fives and five top 10s with a best finish of second at Pocono (PA) Raceway in June. He is the owner/driver of the No. 44 Ansel-Menard's Ford.
The ARCA Racing Series made its inaugural appearance at the beautiful Mansfield facility last year. Kimmel qualified 14th and finished 9th in a race won by Parker Klingerman of Westport, CT.
Owner/driver Patrick Sheltra, 24, of Indiantown, FL, (No. 60 Recycling Services/Ferguson Pipe Dodge) who, like Kimmel, is winless so far in 2010, currently leads the ARCA Series standings on the strength of five top five finishes and three top tens through the first eight races of the season. Last year at Mansfield, Sheltra qualified 16th and finished 21st after being an early-race contender.
Other 2010 ARCA Racing Series race winners expected to enter the Mansfield event include Justin Marks, 29, Rocklin, CA. (No. 32 Construction Corps Toyota at Palm Beach International Raceway, Jupiter, FL), Mikey Kile, 27, West Lake, LA, (No. 25 Sears Auto Center-DieHard Toyota at Michigan International Speedway), Craig Goess, 29, Woodbury, NJ, (No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Toyota at Pocono Raceway), Dakoda Armstrong, 18, New Castle, IN (No. 22 Ferrellgas Dodge at Talladega (AL) Superspeedway), and Steve Arpin, 26, Ft. Frances, Ontario (No. 55 Mike's Hard Lemonade Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway and Salem (IN) Speedway).
$15 adult tickets are available until July 14th at Menards Ohio locations in Marion, Massillon, Ontario, Findlay and Sandusky. Children 10 and under are free. All tickets include access to the ARCA Garage Area on July 17th until 2pm and again after 4pm (no shorts, open toed shoes or sleeveless shirts) and free camping starting Friday, July 16th.
