Montgomery Has Amazing Run at Lowe's.
CONCORD, NC. (May 17, 2002)-- A seventh place finish felt like a victory for the #27"Miles for Smiles" Montgomery Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
After wrecking in Thursday afternoon's practice session, Montgomery Motorsports pulled out their backup car for the second time in two races. The team then changed the motor on Friday morning, resulting in a 36th position start.
Team driver Chase Montgomery had little time to get to the front in the 67-lap EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts Services 100.
He wasted no time as he slashed his way through the field, gaining 16 positions by the first caution on Lap 15.
"The car was better than it was yesterday, but it wasn't where our primary car had been," Montgomery said.
In the short, 67-lap race, there were several laps run under yellow, which took away significant race time for Montgomery to gain position.
"Hopefully this will be a turn-a-round to our disappointing season," Montgomery said. "I know tonight wasn't a victory, but it felt like one for me and the team. We've had a rough season so far and this finish tonight was really needed. We'll come back in the fall with our primary car and try it again."
