ARCA RE/MAX Series Prepares for Kentucky Speedway Open Test & Media Day Tuesday, April 15

SPARTA, KY (4-10-08) -- The ARCA RE/MAX Series, in its 56th consecutive season, is headed to Kentucky Speedway Tuesday, April 15th for an open test and media day. The event is in preparation for the upcoming Saturday night, May 10th Drive Smart! Buckle Up Kentucky 150.
Joining the ARCA RE/MAX Series open test and media day will be the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Office of Highway Safety, which will be demonstrating the Rollover Simulator. The Rollover Simulator demonstrates, using life-size dummies, what can happen to unbelted occupants in a rollover crash. Unbuckled dummies are ejected from the simulator as it rolls while buckled dummies remain restrained.
In addition, a dozen ARCA RE/MAX Series drivers are expected to participate in the open test including Formula 1 veteran Scott Speed in an Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) Red Bull Toyota. Also entered from the ESR camp are Lilburn, Georgia driver Ken Butler III and Ottawa, Ontario's Pierre Bourque. Also entered for the test are Cherry Hill, New Jersey's Tom Hessert III in an Andy Belmont Racing Ford, newcomer Matt Hawkins and Surrey, British Columbia rookie Ryan Fischer in a Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet. Other test entrants include Indiantown, Florida's Patrick Sheltra, Prestonsburg, Kentucky's Steve Blackburn, Columbus, Ohio's Greg Sarff and newcomer Larry Campbell.
All media is welcome for the test which is scheduled for on-track time between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time. An event media session complete with driver, sponsor and track officials comments will begin at noon.
When the ARCA RE/MAX Series returns to Kentucky for the May 10th raceday event, it will be joined by the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series, which will compete in a 100-lap feature race on the adjoining Kentucky Speedway paved quarter-mile just prior to the Drive Smart! Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 on the 1.5-mile track.
Pre-entries for the Driver Smart! Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 include Kimmel, Roush Fenway Racing development driver Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Dodge development driver Tayler Malsam, five-time Daytona winner Bobby Gerhart and Springfield, Illinois racer Justin Allgaier.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series former winners list at Kentucky is impressive to say the least. It includes Kimmel, Michael McDowell, Erik Darnell, Tim Steele, Ryan Newman, Chad Blount, Kyle Busch, Ryan Hemphill, Steve Wallace and Brad Coleman.
The series will open a Kentucky Speedway season for the ninth time with the help of rising country music artist Rissi Palmer, who will perform on the track's Turn 1 Concourse stage at 6:30 p.m. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. on race day.
Practice for the Drive Smart Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 will be Saturday, May 10th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by SIM Factory Pole Award Qualifying at 3:30 p.m. The start of the ARCA Lincoln Welders 100 is slated for 5:00 p.m. with the Drive Smart! Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 to follow at 8:00 p.m.
