Rookie Completes Sweep Of Kentucky Races In Dominant Fashion

July 12, 2004 (Sparta, Kentucky) - Ryan Hemphill may be a native of the state of Pennsylvania, but the ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie sure has taken a liking to the Bluegrass state of Kentucky. In dominant fashion, Hemphill led every lap of the rain-shortened Kentucky 150 to complete a season sweep of the two ARCA events at the 1.5-mile speedway.

"Wow, this is pretty cool." stated Hemphill. "Once again my guys gave me an awesome car with this #64 TRIMSPA DODGE. We brought a new car this week and we struggled a little bit with it in practice but we got it just where we needed it to be by race time. We got a little lucky there with the rain as we were going to have to pit fairly soon for fuel - but things worked out well for us."

The 22-year-old rookie started the race in the 4th position as a result of qualifying being rained out and the field set by the current 2004 series owner's points. As the green flag flew on raceday it was quickly evident that Ryan was the class of the field as he darted to the lead by the completion of lap one - and it would be a position that he would never relinquish.

The scheduled 100-lap event was filled with cautions early on as the field managed only ten green flag laps out of the first 30 laps. With black clouds quickly moving in around the track, the race went back to racing under green on lap 30 and the pace settled in for a long green flag run. With Hemphill and many of the other lead lap cars on the verge of needing a pit stop for fuel, Mother Nature opened the skies and the race was halted on lap 65 due to heavy rain. Unable to resume the race due to time restrictions, the race was quickly called official.

"It would have been very interesting if we would have had to make a stop under green," said Ryan. "My guys made the right calls all weekend and I put my faith in them. This #64 TRIMSPA ride was really hooked up today and the horsepower that Ernie Elliott gave us was awesome. It is fun to drive these cars when they are as good as this one was today - just a great job by Greg Tester (crew chief) and all of the guys on this TRIMSPA team. And it was pretty neat to have my stepmother (Kim) up there spotting for me - she used to all the time in my earlier days of racing."

The win marked the 4th of the season for the rookie in only nine starts in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. He has also collected three Poles to go along with those wins. After leading all 67 laps of the event at Kentucky, Hemphill has a led a total of 402 circuits in his nine races this season.

Hemphill and his Braun Racing team will now turn their focus on the next event this weekend at the Gateway International Raceway. The rookie will be making his 10th start of the season in his #64 TRIMPSA DODGE and he looks to continue the positive momentum from this weekend.
