Carter Pulls Out of Kansas Series Points Leader after Battling Ill-Handling Car
Kansas City, KS (4-25-08) Matt Carter piloted the No. 46 Stine Seed, Fort Dodge Animal Health , Nu South Lemonade , Pork Ford Fusion to pull off an eleventh place finish in the ARCA RE/MAX series Kansas Lottery $150 Grand at Kansas Speedway on Friday, April 25. After working with an ill-handling car for the entire practice the crew made major adjustments prior to qualifying and Carter filled the No. 7 position on the starting grid in a talent packed field of forty-two cars.
During the race Carter continued to endure handling issues with the car. Crew chief, Travis Carter, made numerous calls for four tire changes and wedge adjustments throughout the race - desperately trying to free up the car. However, lap after lap the car proved to have a mind of its' own. Even though Carter struggled throughout the day to maintain position, he and the No. 46 team managed to secure the No. 1 position in Driver points.
"Matt did a great job handling the car and maintaining track position - considering what he had to work with. The crew did everything they could to make improvements" said team owner Larry Clement. "It was a fete for Matt just to keep from wrecking the car. This is the first race so far this season we haven't been in competition for the win - even though we tested well here in early April. It's a long season and everyone will have days like this and I guess today was our day. We didn't get the points lead the way we would have liked to, but we'll take it."
Carter, who expressed the same disappointment as Clement, said that capturing the points lead after such a frustrating day was good news. "It's just frustrating to come out here and run as bad as we did. I think everyone's disappointed, but capturing the points lead is one positive after having a day like today", said Carter. "I guess we'll take it back to the shop and figure out what went wrong with the car, so we can fix it and run good at the next superspeedway race later on in the year." Along with being the current points leader, Carter is the only driver to have completed every lap of every race in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season thus far.
The No. 46 team will pack up and head to the place where the Carter family roots began and are still growing strong - Rockingham, NC for the Carolina 500. The race will be televised live on SPEED Sunday, May 4th at 12 Noon EST. This is the longest race in ARCA RE/MAX series modern era and an historic series debut at "The Rock".
