Successful Return For Jennifer Jo Cobb In Kansas
KANSAS CITY, KS (April 30, 2007) - - It was a last minute deal, but it paid dividends. Jennifer Jo Cobb returned to the ARCA RE/MAX Series last Friday with open arms and she answered a return with a solid 25th place effort.
The fifth event of the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX Series season consisted of a one-day show meaning practice, qualifying and the race would be slammed into a tight schedule.
During practice, Cobb driving the No. 82 DriverBoutique.com Chevrolet gathered the 32nd fastest effort with a time of 33.735 seconds at 160.071 MPH. While the effort was fast enough to put the Kansas City native into the event, she was looking for more, much more.
"We are looking for some more speed heading into qualifying," said Cobb. "We have a pretty good car and we have some changes in mind on what we want to do, hopefully everything will work out."
Indeed, it did work out. In time trials, Cobb the second qualifier of the day posted a time of 33.255 seconds at 162.382 MPH putting her 25th on the starting grid.
"We cannot complain about that," she said following qualifying. "It was a good run. We picked up some time from practice on scuff tires. The changes we made worked and I'll make my first ARCA start of the season. I'm very excited."
Like the rest of her competition, Cobb would have to wait nearly two hours past the initial starting time as Mother Nature brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to Kansas Speedway wetting the track and putting a halt to the start of the Kansas Lottery $150 Grand.
Conditions improved setting up for an early evening race. With the first 15 laps of the event utilized to help fully dry the track, the teams would get 84 laps to battle out for the win.
Cobb enjoyed a clean and non-eventful race. Knowing she wanted to utilize her first ARCA event of the season to gain more laps and seat time at Kansas Speedway, the driver was hoping to bring the car back in one piece.
She answered her goals with a thundering applause collecting a 25th place finish finishing right behind her teammate Mike Harmon in the No. 38 Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa Chevrolet.
"The day was a success," she said. "We did everything that we needed to do. I appreciate everything Mike Harmon and his team did for me this week. They were able to put me in a competitive car and I had some fun. Now, we're going to turn our attention away from the track and concentrate on our sponsorship so we can come back ARCA racing more often."
Cobb would also like to thank her sponsors, DriverBoutique.com, Providence Medical Center, Saint John Hospital, Auto Finance Centers and Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa for their support this past weekend.
"My sponsors are fabulous. They are so supportive of my racing career and I know we made some strides. All of my sponsors enable me to get out on the track and do what I love. I hope we'll be doing a lot of that as the season is just getting started."
