TOP-TEN AT TALLADEGA; MARKS PREPARES FOR TOLEDO AND NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES DEBUT
CONCORD, NC (10-10-07) After a disappointing starting position of 35th, Justin Marks, driver of the #65 Crocs Breast Cancer Research Foundation Dodge, muscled his way up 27 spots to finish eighth in Friday's ARCA RE/MAX 250 at Talladega Superspeedway.
"The race was a bit frustrating for the most part because it was difficult to find a group of cars that were committed to a line and trying to make forward progress," Marks said. "There were a lot of close calls and tense moments but I was impressed that everyone was able to race two and three wide all day and not have a significant problem. We just tried to make the most of the last few laps and take advantage of the situation to get the Crocs Dodge into a top-ten position. Whenever you can come out of a race at Talladega in one piece and with a respectable finish, it's a good day."
With seven consecutive top-tens and an average finishing spot of 5.7 since the August Springfield race, Marks took another step up in the ARCA RE/MAX Series driver's points to fifth.
"I've maintained that the RAB Racing team has been a competitive effort all year long. We have been capable of finishing in the top-ten and top-five all year long but just had a lot of bad luck that is continuing to turn around in our favor. Finishing in the top-five in points would be a significant achievement given the misfortune we've had through the first part of the season."
This weekend's race at Toledo Speedway marks the final race of the 2007 ARS season. Marks, who finished 11th in the spring Toledo race, looks to bring home one more top-ten finish this season.
"I'm excited about finishing the year on a high note. I like the Toledo track and we have an opportunity to finish the season out with an impressive run. We're bringing a car that we haven't taken to a short track race yet this year that almost won Milwaukee and had a strong run in St. Louis. It's a solid piece and I think we can contend for the win. I really want to put the #65 in victory lane this year and this is the last chance. I'm looking forward to racing hard for the win but most of all just want to finish on a high note and return the favor to the people that have worked their hearts out this year for the RAB Racing team."
With the ARCA RE/MAX Series season coming to a close, Marks will make his debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Texas Motor Speedway and plans to run a few more races this season.
"ARCA has been a great learning experience for me this year. I've been able to experience a lot of different scenarios and I'm looking forward to applying that at the next level. Competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is a great opportunity for me and it's really an extension of the hard work that this team has put in this year providing me with the equipment to run competitively. I'm looking forward to making the RAB Racing team, Construct Corps, and Crocs proud of what they have done for me in 2007."
Justin Marks will announce his 2008 plans in the coming weeks.
