Dust Swept Away the High Hopes of Allgaier in DuQuoin
DuQuoin, IL (September 5, 2006) - Justin Allgaier had high hopes heading into the ARCA RE/MAX Series Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on the one-mile dirt oval. Just a few weeks ago, Allgaier was victorious at the ARCA dirt track race in his hometown of Springfield, IL. Hoping to have his second victory on dirt, Allgaier qualified the No. 16 AG Tech-Hoosier Tire Midwest-USAF Chevrolet in the seventh place position. Allgaier knew he had a stong car and it showed in the event when he, Kenny Schrader and Frank Kimmel all raced for the point position. The three battled hard but pulled way out from the other competitors and began encountering lapped traffic. Battling Frank Kimmel for the second place position Allgaier drove down to the bottom of the track passing a lapped car and into the corner, where the two collided ending the night for them both on lap 41.
"I just hate it for this team," Justin Allgaier said. "But I really hate it for Frank (Kimmel) more because of his pursuit of his eighth championship. I'm not sure what really happened; the competition was heavy early on and Frank and I got together on the straight-away and when I went under the lapped car just past the start/finish line and headed into turn-one, we got tangled up sending us both into the wall. I know it would have been an awesome race if we had the opportunity to play it out. Kenny (Schrader) , Frank (Kimmel) and I had the cars to beat tonight. All the way around it is a bad deal but its part of racing. I just hope to head to Chicagoland this weekend and have better results."
The next race on schedule for the ARCA RE/MAX Series will take place on Saturday, September 9th at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, IL.
