Joey Miller Set To Race Full 2005 ARCA Schedule
Joint Effort Between Hagans Racing, Country Joe Racing Includes Short Tracks
LAKEVILLE, MN (October 22, 2004) -- 19-year-old Joey Miller has three things he wants everyone to know; that he will compete with ARCA full-time in 2005; that he has intentions of winning races; and that he has his eye on the Rookie of the Year crown. This announcement, made Friday, expands on the news that Miller has formed a partnership with ARCA powerhouse Hagans Racing for 13 speedway races on the 2005 ARCA schedule. After much consideration, Miller will now compete full-time for the series' Rookie of the Year and National Championship honors.
The full 23-race effort will be made possible by the joint effort between Hagans Racing and Country Joe Racing. Hagans Racing, of Indianapolis, IN, will house all of the speedway cars, while Country Joe Racing, located in Lakeville, MN, will prepare the short track and dirt track cars. The equipment will all come through Hagans Racing, but the cars will be maintained in different locations.
"Next year should be a great time," said Miller. "I'm excited to be able to run all the races now. I'm looking forward to it and to the variety of tracks that we'll get to go to. We've got good people, good equipment and good motors. I'd like to be Rookie of the Year and finish in the top five in points. I know that we'll be capable of it and I think that I'm capable of it as a driver.
"I'm not looking at it as running for points. I'm just going to go out and do the best job that I can every week and every type of track. I'm not going to force the issue. I'll go out and take what we can get in every race and try to finish in one piece."
Kevin Cywinski, Miller's teammate at Country Joe Racing during the past few years, will serve as Miller's mentor during his 2005 season and will oversee the preparation of the short track and dirt track cars.
"We've got a good group of people up here that will be working on the stuff, but it is still going to be a very close relationship between us and the guys down at Hagans Racing. All of the motors will still come from Hagans. All of the cars will come through Hagans Racing. We will just work on preparing the cars from the short tracks and the dirt races in our shops in Minnesota.
"I feel very confident that Joey can go out there and challenge for Rookie of the Year, as well as win races, adds Cywinski, a two-time ASA champion. "I think that I can benefit him the most on the short tracks. I've been to a lot of the various tracks that he'll visit next year already and I can go and do some testing with them.
"For a younger kid, Joey has a lot of talent. He doesn't have the fear that some of us older drivers have. He is extremely good on the speedways. We'll help him a little bit to show his short track savvy and he'll be a really well-rounded driver as he gets ready to go to the next level of racing."
Miller competed in two ARCA races in 2004 with Hagans Racing and collected the victory in just his first career ARCA start (Nashville Superspeedway in August).
"I see the intermediate tracks as our strength," said Miller. "We should be strong at the short tracks as well. Our biggest struggle will be the dirt tracks. I've never raced on dirt before. I've always been told dirt is for farming and asphalt is for racing, but I'm excited about trying something different.
"We're going to try to test a lot, especially on dirt, but there's only so much that you can do. With Kevin's help on the short tracks and our already strong speedway program, I think things will be just fine."
The 2005 ARCA season opens at Daytona International Speedway with the 42nd annual Daytona ARCA 200 on February 12th.
